Chip Calise

Chip started making music when he was 14 years old. After spending over 20 years as a metal drummer in a band with various line-up and name changes, he decided it was time to walk away.

After taking a year off, he decided it was time to get back to music but this time, it would have to be something different. Something new. Chip’s interest in Industrial music was quickly growing. After purchasing a Roland EG-101 synthsizer, and shutting himself inside the studio for weeks on end, Chip’s first foray into the Industrial arena was complete. This first project was called Scars Are Soulless. It would become Chip’s main project.

Scars Are Soulless has supported several international Industrial acts. Chip has several other side projects with various industrial styles: the edgier Fleshtorn Razorblade, the dancier Withdrawn and the doom-ish, guitar-heavy Machinery Godz.

Mike Pimentel

Mike started off in music playing first, clarinet then bass clarinet in the school band. After realizing that he hated it, he traded in his clarinet on his first guitar, a black Gibson Les Paul. From there, he co-founded thrash/ speed metal band, Inferno, with Chip Calise at the tender age of 14 years old. After the addition of another guitarist and a bass player, the band changed the name to Painful Pleasure and Mike put down his guitar and took over as lead vocalist.

In 1990, Mike left Painful Pleasure and moved to California where he played with smaller, local bands but kept writing his own gothic metal influenced music and started to branch into some industrial metal as well under the name “Art of War”.

Mike returned to New England in early 1995 and Chip and Mike reunited for several small projects such as Bitches Leave, Infernal Massacre and Best Friend Solitude.
In 2009, Chip, having freshly recorded Scars Are Soulless’s debut album, asked Mike to participate in a live Scars show. Mike retired the guitar as his primary instrument and took up synthesizers almost exclusively. Since then, Mike has created the bands Kriegs, KTL and Desir et Attente as well as collaborating with Chip on the Coma Sequence and Machinery Godz projects.

With Scars Are Soulless and Kriegs, Mike has shared the stage with such bands as Psyclon Nine, Imperative Reaction, Nachtmahr, Uberbyte, The Birthday Massacre and Bile.
